It's a bug!

When we were first admitted to the NICU we were told to expect a roller coaster ride and to count on her getting some kind of bug during our stay. We almost escaped, but no such luck.

Another X-ray, taken this morning, showed that the inflammation in Alexa's stomach had worsened and it was looking more like she had a flu virus. Her feedings have been stopped for 24 hours and more lab work and X-rays will be taken in the morning. Since they stopped her feeding she is sleeping very well.

An I.V. was started to give her fluids. Since her veins are so tiny the best one they found was in her head - I had to leave when they put it in, but the nurse said she didn't cry very much.
When she's awake she gets fussy until someone holds her, so when mom's not around, the nurses jump at every chance they get (which isn't very often).

We're hoping she'll be back to normal by tomorrow - she's already starting to act like she's getting a little hungry and that's the first indicator that she's feeling better.

Oh man, poor little girl. I hope and pray that she gets better soon. I am sure that you are so anxious to get to take your precious Alexa home.

We're so sorry to hear Alexa got sick :( It's hard to have setbacks, especially when you're getting so ready (and anxious) to having your family all home! We're praying for her strength and hope she'll be able to recover soon. You guys are great parents and I think her middle name is very nice and appropriate for everything you guys have gone through.
Congratulations on the open bed though... Isn't it great to be able to pick her up whenever you want?! I remember being so excited about that..

Trevor, keep us up to date on how Alexa is doing. We are still praying for her and you and Melissa. You have had a hard thing to go thru, but I think it is making you and Alexa stronger spiritually, and maybe some of the rest of us as well. Love always, Grma Joann
